On behalf of the Ministry of Transport (MoT) of the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia this project is concerned with the implementation of a new management system for road transport in the Capital City region of Riyadh. By consequence of the rapid settlement and populationg growth of the capital city region, road traffic in general and the number and duration of traffic jams significantly increased over the last decade, so that traffic capacities exceed for many road segments.
Thus, the aim of this project is to better organize and optimize road transport with the help of latest IT systems in a way to keep pace with the foreseen continous city growth in the next decade.
One work package of this overall project is to develop an appropriate web platform, based upon modern GI systems, which will display actual road infrastructures along with the actual traffic load / traffic jams along the networks in an interactive manner for the overall Saudi public.
RRG is responsible for this work package. At the beginning a user needs assessment will reveal the detailed requirements for this online information system. Next, appropriate data structures will be developed. Finally, the core GIS web application will be developed based upon latest ArcGIS Server technologies. Already existing GI systems and web application will be used as a starting point for this work package.
