Activity 2: GIS and GIS-Applications

This activity is concerned with GIS-related services (such as digitisations, map generation and map production, conceptualisation and generation of spatial geodatabases), with the development of GIS applications and graphical user interfaces, as well as with conducting GIS-based analyses and education in the field of GIS.

One of the main tasks within this field of activity is the development of concepts and strategies fort he set up and implementation of spatial geodatabases. In close co-operation with our clients we offer to develop and implement database schemata that meet specific project requirements, to maintain such databases and to further develop and adjust them to new emerging needs. This service also includes support for data gathering, data purchase or even digitisation processes, and data conversions between different formats, utilising long year experience in such activities in the maintenance and development of huge spatial databases (c.f. Activity 3).

A second important task within this field of activity is the development of interfaces between ArcInfo/ArcGIS and transport models or other simulation models. Such interfaces allow to facilitate the usage of network data stored in GI systems within transport models or other models without the need to store and update data in several incompatible data formats. This enable the usage of the best capabilities of both worlds: to unlock editing and analysis functionalities in GI systems while applying sophisticated transport and other simulation models. An overview on the developed interfaces so far is provided here. We very much would like to assist you in the development of new or in the adjustment of existing interfaces.

Closely related to the development of interfaces is also the development of specific up-to-date graphical user interfaces (GUI) which serve the needs of the clients. Such interfaces are needed to edit the geodata or for the export of geodata to other formats.

RRG is also offering services and support in the field of cartographic works, i.e. in the generation of high-quality digital maps and print outs for all common formats (A4 to A0). We offer a full spectrum of services, starting with the collection or generation of necessary base data, the development and implementation of the map layouts, the storage, conversion and application of different data formats, and ranging to the generation and copying of the print outs. The existing RRG GIS Database can also be utilised to provide required data input. (c.f. Activity 3), and of course client´s databases or data from other data provider can be integrated as well.

Based on the full spectrum of the existing RRG GIS Datenbasis we can offer specific types of analysis, for instance the generation of isochrones maps, or the calculation of specific interaction data or regional data, or the development of specific GIS tools and GIS toolboxes.
